The City is developing a new Major Events Strategy
Geelong has experienced significant growth in recent years, and there is a strong desire to build on the city's unique attributes to drive economic, social, and cultural benefits through major events.
To acknowledge and reflect these changes to our region, we are looking to develop a new Major Events Attraction Strategy for Geelong.
The purpose of this strategy is to position Geelong as a leading destination for major events, festivals, and cultural gatherings, attracting visitors from across the region, interstate, and internationally.
The strategy will highlight Geelong's strengths, identify opportunities to diversify the major events portfolio and strategically procure new and exciting major events for the region, whilst acknowledging and providing recommendations for potential challenges that may impact on successful attraction of major events to the region.
The Strategy will be developed in collaboration with the Geelong Major Events Committee (GME) and other identified stakeholders.
Geelong is positively recognised globally for hosting international standard major events and in FY22-23 delivered 18 major events providing an economic benefit to the region of $77.5 million There is a current Geelong Major Events Strategy 2016-2026 (Geelong Major Events Strategy) however, it is timely to review and develop a new strategy that is responsive to the current landscape.
