LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee members confirmed

Welcome

On Tuesday 23 August, Council approved the establishment of the Committee whose purpose is to provide advice and recommendation to the City of Greater Geelong including the advocacy for equality and social inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ community.

In response to the City’s Community Plan Strategy One: ‘Healthy Caring and Inclusive Communities’ the formation of this committee demonstrates the City of Greater Geelong’s commitment to ensure all feel welcome, safe and connected (Community Plan, Strategy One pg. 11).

In accordance with the Terms of Reference for the LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee we are seeking expressions of interest from independent community members who can demonstrate the following:

  • A knowledge, lived, living or experienced, of the needs and issues relevant to the inclusion of the Greater Geelong LGBTQIA+ community,
  • An interest or experience in local community partnerships, advocacy, networks or activities,
  • The ability to contribute to the strategic development of LGBTQIA+ inclusion at local government level,
  • An ability to consult with the LGBTQIA+ community and represent a wide range of views, and
  • A knowledge and/or experience of the role of an advisory committee.

The new committee will meet six times a year to advise Council on issues that affect people in the City of Greater Geelong who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Plus (LGBTQIA+) and their families.

Council will appoint members to reflect the diverse communities within the City of Greater Geelong with a commitment for a high level of LGBTIQA+ representation.

Membership of the committee is for two years and positions are unpaid.

Applications are open to community members aged 18+ who reside or work within the City of Greater Geelong.
