Capital Projects investment

The Council is budgeting for a $616.2 million capital projects program over the next four years, delivering new and upgraded community facilities and infrastructure such as sports pavilions and fields, playgrounds and skate parks, footpaths and road improvements.

Four-year capital projects forecast

  • 2023-24 – $195.9 million
  • 2024-25 – $138.3 million
  • 2025-26 – $157.7 million
  • 2026-27 – $124.3 million
  • Total – $616.2 million over four years

Capital expenditure by category – 2023-24

  • Roads, paths, kerb and channel and drains $44.6 million
  • Land acquisitions $40 million
  • Buildings $37.6 million
  • Parks, open space and leisure $31.3 million
  • Roadside infrastructure and furniture $17.1 million

Unfortunately, large cost escalations in the construction sector have had a major impact on our capital projects program. While we have not reduced our capital projects budget, our money won’t stretch as far and we can’t afford to deliver as many projects in total.

As a result, we have had to place some planned projects on hold, meaning they do not feature in this budget. These on hold projects are still on our agenda and we will look for ways to deliver them as soon as we can.

A full list of budgeted capital projects can be found within the budget document. A list of projects placed on hold for now is below.
