Welcome

Our new Asset Plan was adopted by Council in June

Update - July 2022

The Asset Plan was adopted by Council at the June Council meeting, the plan sets out how the diverse asset base will be managed and maintained.

There are specific plans for key infrastructure classes, considering factors such as maintenance, renewal, acquisition, expansion, upgrade, disposal, and decommissioning.

The draft plan was released in April for community consultation.

Public feedback, which included six submissions and saw three people attend an in-person session, was supportive of the plan.

No content changes were made to the Asset Plan before it was adopted by Council.

Finance portfolio chair, Councillor Anthony Aitken, said Council was committed to closing the renewal gap.

“The plan gives us a better understanding of the state of our assets, and the future opportunities, costs and risks that come with them.

“This enables us to make strategic, evidence-based decisions with an eye to the long term, to ensure we can sustain our assets and minimise the burden on future generations.”

The City of Greater Geelong is responsible for hundreds of thousands of individual assets, with a total value of $3.1 billion.

This includes civil infrastructure - such as roads, kerb and channel, bridges, drainage and footpaths – worth $2.2 billion, and social infrastructure, such as buildings, open spaces, arts and culture and recreation facilities, worth $956 million.

Council endorsed the release of the draft Asset Plan 2022-32 for public feedback in April 2022.

The 10-year works planning is built on industry best practice strategic models. Council was awarded the 2022 Institute of Public Works Engineers Excellence award for this work.

Our Asset Planning is informed by deliberative community engagement. This included a series of five workshops in 2021, with feedback presented to the right of this page. This process will continue in the coming years to ensure our infrastructure planning is aligned with community needs.

Feedback on the draft Asset Plan and the planning process were welcomed. We encouraged community members to review the draft Asset Plan 2022-32 before providing feedback.

Community feedback was accepted using an online submission form or in writing , an opportunity was available to share your feedback with the project team in person at a two drop in sessions held in May at National Wool Museum and Armstrong Creek East Community Hub.
