Project History

We're renewing the footpath along Belle Vue Avenue in the Highton Village shopping precinct as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and accessible public spaces.

While this work is part of our regular business, we’re also responding to feedback from our community, who have expressed concerns about the current condition of the footpath.

The existing footpath, made of bricks and pavers, was built around 30 years ago. Currently, the footpath shows significant movement and instability in the pavers. Some sections are affected by tree roots, grading problems, and slipperiness, which have caused numerous falls over the years.

We propose to remove the current bricks and replace with asphalt paving, with a brick line separating 3m x 3m sections of asphalt. It will provide a fit-for-purpose footpath around the shopping precinct.

This method allows for easy replacement of defined segments if damaged by tree roots or third-party services without affecting aesthetics. Asphalt paths can be opened shortly after installation, meaning less impact on trading within the street.

Once we finalize the construction schedule, we will provide notices to all affected parties. There will be temporary detours on the footpath and possibly the road, but we are using asphalt, which will be ready for public use within an hour or two. We will prioritize certain areas to minimize disruptions.

Further consultation with traders will take place in late 2024, with construction scheduled over a five-week period in early 2025. The works will be carried out in sections (Area A, Area B, and Area C as shown in the plan below) one at a time until completion

Prior to the commencement of works, the community will be informed through on-site signage, detailing the nature of the work and its expected duration.
