The Victorian Government has legislated that all councils must introduce a separate glass-recycling bin by x date**.

At the City of Greater Geelong, in partnership with Wyndham City Council, we’re currently advocating against a one-size-fits-all approach.

We believe a flexible system, where councils can opt in or out based on local success and needs, makes more sense.

Thanks to the success of the expanded glass container deposit scheme, we don’t believe separate glass bins should be made mandatory in our area.

Implementing glass bins would come at a significant cost, around $7 million just to purchase the bins, plus ongoing operating costs which will be included in your waste charge on your rates notice?

We want to understand how you feel about this.

Your feedback will help us represent the community in discussions with the Victorian Government.
If the Government decides to move ahead with mandatory glass bins, we will come back to you for further consultation.
