About the project

In response to concerns raised by local residents about the condition of the unsealed roads in Elgin Street, Granville Street and Newcombe Street, Drysdale, the City of Greater Geelong is considering road upgrades.

The proposed upgrades include road sealing with kerb and channel.

We are proposing that these upgrades are funded via a Special Rate and Charge scheme (SRC). This is a co-funding arrangement, where the cost is shared between the City and property owners who directly benefit from the works.

The purpose of this early engagement is to seek your feedback to help us understand if there is support for the proposed construction to proceed under an SRC scheme in the future.

If a majority of property owners support the proposed project, we would move forward to the design stage in the 2023-24 financial year.

Proposed Special Rates and Charge scheme

Under Council's Special Rates and Charges Policy, a Special Rate and Charge scheme enables the City to provide services to the community that would otherwise be impeded by budgets and timing. This means we can bring forward a project, if the benefitting property owners are willing to partner with the City by contributing funding.

As a guide, we estimate the cost for this proposed project to be around $10,000 per property. More accurate costs will be known once designs are completed.

In line with Council's policy, an SRC scheme will only proceed with the support of a majority of responding property owners.

More information about our Special Rate and Charge schemes can be found here.

Have Your Say

It is important to us to hear your views. We encourage property owners to join the conversation by participating in the short survey below to help us understand if you:

  • support the proposed road upgrades; and
  • are willing to partner with us in a cost sharing arrangement under an SRC scheme in the future.

The survey closes at 5pm on Thursday 30 March 2023.
