About the project

In response to drainage concerns raised by property owners, the City of Greater Geelong is proposing laneway and drainage upgrades on the above highlighted laneway's.

The proposed works include improved drainage with laneway sealing.

We are proposing that these upgrades are funded via a Special Rate and Charge (SRC) scheme. This is a co-funding arrangement, where the cost is shared between the City and property owners who directly benefit from the works.

The purpose of this early engagement is to seek feedback from property owners to help us understand if there is support to proceed with an SRC in the future.

As a guide, we estimate the cost for the proposed project to be a minimum of $15,000 per property. If a majority of property owners are supportive, we will prepare designs in the 2023-24 financial year. Precise costs will be known once the designs are completed.

Special Rates and Charge Scheme

Under Council's Special Rate and Charge scheme, an SRC scheme enables the City to provide services to the community that would otherwise be impeded by budgets and timing. This means that we can bring forward a project, if the benefiting property owners are willing to partner with the City by contributing funding.

Once the survey has closed, we will be in contact soon after to inform you of the outcome.

If the community supports the proposed project being funded under an SRC scheme, once the designs are completed, we will undertake further engagement with property owners. You will have another opportunity to share feedback with us at that time.

The proposed SRC scheme would then only proceed if a majority of responding property owners supported it.

More information about Special Rate and Charge schemes is available here.

Have your say

It is important to us to hear your views. We encourage property owners to join the conversation by participating in the short survey below to help us understand if you:

  • support the proposed drainage and laneway upgrades; and
  • are willing to partner with us in a cost sharing arrangement under an SRC scheme in the future.

Please note that this survey closes at 5pm on Tuesday 9 May 2023.
