About the project

In response to drainage concerns raised by local residents, the City of Greater Geelong is considering the construction of kerb and channel in Thacker Street West, Ocean Grove (properties 18 - 63).

We are proposing that this project is funded via a Special Rate and Charge (SRC) scheme.

This is a co-funded arrangement, where the cost is shared between the City and property owners who directly benefit from the works.

The purpose of this early engagement is to seek your feedback to help us understand if there is support for the proposed construction to proceed under an SRC scheme in the future.

As a guide, we estimate the cost for this proposed project to be around $5,000 per property. If a majority of property owners support the proposal, we will prepare the designs in the 2023-24 financial year. More accurate costs will be known once designs are completed.

Special Rates and Charge scheme

Under Council's Special Rates and Charges Policy, a Special Rate and Charge scheme enables the City to provide services to the community that would otherwise be impeded by budgets and timing. This means we can bring forward a project, if the benefitting property owners are willing to partner with the City by contributing funding.

Once the survey has closed, we will be in contact soon after to inform you of the outcome.

If the community supports the proposed project being funded under an SRC scheme, once the designs are completed, we will undertake further engagement with property owners. You will have another opportunity to share feedback with us at that time.

The proposed SRC scheme would then only proceed if a majority of responding property owners supported it.

More information about our Special Rate and Charge schemes can be found here.

Have Your Say

It is important to us to hear your views. We encourage property owners to join the conversation by participating in the short survey below to help us understand if you:

  • support the proposed road upgrades project; and
  • are willing to partner with us in a cost sharing arrangement under an SRC scheme in the future.

The survey closes at 5pm on Thursday 30 March 2023.
