Feedback on the Road renaming for Charlemont and Marshall project has closed. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback, your contribution is valued and appreciated.

The City invited the community to provide feedback on renaming of three (3) sections of Horseshoe Bend Road in Charlemont and Marshall, due to the roadways becoming truncated, and to name a newly created roadway in Charlemont. The new names chosen for each section are in honour of women who served either during WWI or WWII.

The consultation was open from 20 May to 19 June, 2023.

The submissions are currently being reviewed and all submitters will be contacted via mail.

Next Steps

Following consultation with submitters, the new names will be forwarded to Office of Geographic Names and will be open for a further 30 day submission period.

September 2024

The addresses for three sections of Horseshoe Bend road in Charlemont and Marshall have been updated, with new street signs now installed. All property owners and relevant authorities have been notified.

BACKGROUND

The City of Greater Geelong is proposing to rename three (3) sections of Horseshoe Bend Road in Charlemont and Marshall, due to the roadways becoming truncated, and to name a newly created roadway in Charlemont.

The new names chosen for each section are in honour of women who served either during WWI or WWII. You can learn more about each of the women by reading the Anzac documents in the document library section of this page.

• Section from Woolscour Lane south to Marshalltown/Tannery Road to be renamed to Gilliland Street, Charlemont.
• Section from Marshalltown/Tannery Road south to Reserve Road to be renamed to Duve Street, Marshall.
• Section from Reserve Road south to Swanburra Drive to be renamed to Wise Street, Charlemont.
• New roadway created between properties at 321-329 & 331-343 Barwon Heads Road, to be named Devine Street, Charlemont.

This road renaming is being completed in accordance with the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria by linking the name to place.

Submissions in regards to this naming are open until 19 June 2023.
