The City of Greater Geelong is proposing to rename a section of Lonsdale Street to Shiells Street, South Geelong.
Due to Rail Projects Victoria upgrade of the South Geelong train station, Lonsdale Street no longer conforms to the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria as it is dissected by Yarra Street and not a straight through roadway.
Shiells has been chosen as the name for this roadway from our ANZAC register and in honour of Vera Shiells who served in the Australian Army and originally resided at a property in Yarra Street in close proximity to this roadway.
The renaming of this roadway is being completed in accordance with the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria and will ensure that Gender Equality in road naming is being met.
Submissions in regards to this renaming are open until 25 November 2023.
