Welcome

Expressions of Interest for Barwon Respect Cup 2025 are now closed.

All schools will be contacted with the outcome of their application once the EOI period has closed. We appreciate your participation and support in promoting respect and inclusion in our community.

This full day event brings together Year 9 students from schools across the Greater Geelong region for a series of workshops and a friendly netball competition with a respectful twist.

Topics explored include:

  • Gender stereotypes
  • Affirmative consent
  • Active bystander intervention
  • Help-seeking strategies

The workshops are followed by a mixed round-robin netball competition, designed to be fun, inclusive, and non-competitive.

Barwon Respect Cup empowers young people to take action against gender-based violence by promoting healthy relationships, affirmative consent, bystander intervention, help-seeking behaviours, and gender equity. Students learn to recognise harmful behaviours, speak up, and seek support whether for themselves or someone they know who may be in a disrespectful or unsafe relationship. Students will be encouraged to promote gender equity in their schools and the wider Greater Geelong community, helping to create safer, more inclusive spaces for all.

Respect Cup

16 Days of Activism

This year, the Barwon Respect Cup is part of the City of Greater Geelong’s contribution to the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This global campaign runs annually from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day) and calls on individuals and communities to work together to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls.

Students will have the opportunity to take part in lunchtime activities supporting the 16 Days of Activism, giving them a chance to connect with peers from other schools and explore key themes around respect, inclusion, and gender equity.

Respect Reporter

New for 2025, we’re introducing an option for students who may not wish to take part in the netball round robin.

The Respect Reporter initiative, proudly supported by Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, is an exciting opportunity for students with a passion for media, storytelling, or leadership. Selected schools will be invited to nominate two students to take part in this creative and dynamic experience. On the event day, students will plan, film, photograph, write, and edit a report that could be featured on social media, in a magazine, on television news, or in a newspaper with the option to include comic strips or illustrations. Students may also continue editing their work back at school before submitting. A highlights reel showcasing student reports will be displayed at the stadium and shared online, celebrating their voices and creativity. More information will be provided to successful schools but please encourage students who would thrive in this space to get involved!
