Marketing Proposition

A review of the existing Love Central Geelong Marketing program provided insights into a new marketing proposition for the future. This work identified four key pillars for the development of a new Marketing Framework and Activation Plan, as detailed below.

  • Vision

Central Geelong is the heart of a clever and creative city-region that is forward-looking, enterprising and adaptive and cares for its people and environment.

  • Objectives

Foster the vibrancy and prosperity of central Geelong. Promote central Geelong as the engine room that drives social, cultural and economic growth for the whole of Greater Geelong.

  • Target Audience

The people of City of Greater Geelong and the G21 region is a diverse and growing community of over 250,000 people who together determine the vibrancy of their city.

  • Place

The centre of Geelong is a series of engaging human 'districts' in a landscape with inspiring urban character, where a proud community comes together to live, work, play, study and shop.

Timeline

  • Timeline item 1 - complete

Central Geelong Marketing was established in 2000 as a delegated Committee of the City of Greater Geelong. Central Geelong Marketing was funded through a Special Rate, which was renewed every five years over a period of 20 years.

  • Timeline item 2 - complete

    February 2021

Central Geelong Business Reference Group (CGBRG) was formed in February 2021 with members selected through an Expression of Interest process. The reference group played a key role in assisting Council to make decisions about future marketing activities in central Geelong.

  • Timeline item 3 - complete

    May 2021

After a period of assessment and consultation, Council resolved at its meeting in May 2021 to not declare the Central Geelong Special Rate. At the same time, Council allocated $700,000 to support continuation of marketing Central Geelong in 2021-22 and requested a review of the programs and activities that have been delivered historically by Central Geelong Marketing, as well as recommendations for innovative solutions to create a marketing, events and activations program for central Geelong.

  • Timeline item 4 - complete

    December 2021

The City undertook a review which included analysis of previous reports and studies as well as a draft report to the reference group in December 2021.

The report recommends that a program of marketing for Central Geelong should continue, aligned with the City’s Clever and Creative Vision and Our Community Plan 2021-25. A targeted marketing strategy is proposed to be developed in to identify specific activities and campaigns consistent with the report findings
