From November 2025, we’re planning on making parking meters across central Geelong completely digital and no longer able to accept coins.
We’re switching to digital parking in central Geelong from November 2025 for several reasons.
Like other councils, we’ve seen a significant decline in coin payments over the past seven years with 85 per cent of drivers now paying for their parking by debit card, credit card or via the EasyPark app.
Despite this decline in coin payments, the cost to ratepayers to collect money from meters has increased to more than $250,000 per year.
In addition, repairing printer and mechanical faults contributes significantly to operating costs, in both parts and labour.
Going digital will deliver a more dependable parking system and enable better use of ratepayer money through cost savings.
We want to hear from the community about this plan. Please read the information below and provide your feedback or pose a question by 15 October.
Further Information
From November 2025, parking meters across central Geelong will become fully digital and will no longer accept coins.
This change is being made for several reasons:
- More reliable meters without paper or coin jams
- More control over your stay through the EasyPark app, ensuring you don’t pay for time you don’t use and allowing drivers to extend their stay
- Ratepayer savings from no longer collecting coins
- Reduced operating costs (parts and labour) for ratepayers from printer and mechanical faults
Parking fees will remain unchanged with the transition to digital meters. You can continue to pay using:
Debit or credit card
- Debit or credit card payments at the meter incur a payment processing fee of 0.25%. This applies to all credit and debit card transactions made through the City of Greater Geelong.
Parking fees will remain unchanged with the transition to digital meters. You can continue to pay using:
EasyPark App
The EasyPark app allows you to extend the parking duration remotely from your phone. You only pay for the time you actually use. It can be downloaded through the iTunes store or at Google Play.
EasyPark information including fees can be found on the Easypark website here.
These fees are charged by the payment provider and are in addition to the standard parking rates.
