Increase your First Nations cultural capability!
As part of the City's ongoing commitment to reconciliation, the First Nations Engagement and Outcomes Team is piloting a Cultural Safety Training opportunity for staff. This essential step in rebuilding cultural capability supports efforts to embed actions from our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, alongside the City's broader focus on successful First Nations engagement and employment.
In May 2026, we will offer in-house Cultural Safety Training, facilitated by Uncle Joel Wright from Mob Jobs, with two session dates available:
- Wednesday 6 May, 9am – 1pm (Chambers at City Hall)
- Friday 15 May, 9am – 1pm (Podium Level at Wurriki Nyal)
This professional development opportunity is targeted at manager and team leaders, but is open to anyone looking to increase their capability to recruit support and retain First Nations employees, partners and contractors. Each session will cover:
- Practical measures to support cultural safety throughout the organisation, with the aim of improving outcomes for First Nations employees.
- Real-life case studies related to workplace cultural safety incidents, offering insights into situations where First Nations employees may need additional support.
If you’re interested in increasing your understanding, value and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, knowledge and rights within our organisation, please submit your EOI by 6pm 30 April 2026.
