The City of Greater Geelong is proposing to name an unnamed laneway in Newtown.

It is proposed to name the laneway that runs north – south from Aphrasia Street to Prospect Road, between 19 & 17 Aphrasia Street as “Kelvin Lane”, Newtown.

This name has been chosen due to the historical reference with a large Victorian house named “Kelvin “ at 11 Aphrasia Street, Newtown.

Kelvin is an early 19th Centrury mansion that was originally designed by Davidson and Henderson but later extended to the north by Seeley and King. The original dwelling still remains at 11 Aphrasia Street, Newtown.

Written submissions regarding this road renaming will be open from 27 November, to 30 December, 2020.

This road renaming is being completed in accordance with the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria by linking the name to place.
