Update 22 June 2021 - Budget update

The Budget was adopted by the Council at its 22 June meeting, alongside Our Community Plan 2021-25, which sets strategic priorities for the next four years.

This includes the fully funded Northern Aquatic and Community Hub, with Council last month committing a further $21.84 million to the high priority project. Find out more on the budget here.

Proposed additional funding for Northern Aquatic and Community Hub

Greater Geelong Council is proposing to increase funding for the Northern Aquatic and Community Hub by a further $21.84 million, as part of its proposed four-year budget projections.

The Council is seeking feedback on the inclusion of this additional funding in its Proposed Budget, to be endorsed at the end of June.

This proposed funding commitment is a move towards delivering a community facility that will provide health benefits and social connection for the people of Geelong’s northern suburbs, Greater Geelong and neighbouring areas.

Background

Council’s extra commitment – on top of the existing $23 million it has already allocated in its draft four-year budget – is contingent on its application to assign $8.26 million from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund (LRCIF) being successful.

Subject to that success, the funding breakdown for construction of the $61.6 million facility would be as follows:

• City of Greater Geelong $44.84 million
• Victorian Government $8.5 million
• LRCIF (federal government) $8.26 million

TOTAL $61.6 million

Council will continue to seek extra funding from the state and federal governments.
