BACKGROUND
The City is currently reviewing its Onsite Wastewater Management Plan (OWMP) to address public and environmental health risks from septic tank wastewater and outline strategies for risk mitigation.
The OWMP aims to ensure the effective and sustainable management of domestic wastewater in line with the City's responsibilities under the Environment Protection Act, which mandates local councils to:
- develop and publish plans to manage risks to health and the environment from onsite wastewater systems
- consult with water corporations and other key stakeholders
- consider impacts on water catchments
- notify water corporations of any required sewage management solutions.
The OWMP's success depends on collaboration between the City, the community, industry and stakeholders such as Barwon Water.
We’re grateful to everyone who took part in our community engagement. Your feedback, experiences, and perspectives have been invaluable in shaping our plan.
The final plan is now being completed and will be uploaded to this page as soon as it’s ready. In the meantime, you can view the engagement report below, or access it through the document library on this page.
