Welcome

Overview

We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has been a difficult time for everyone. Employment and financial worries, social isolation and the uncertainty of the pandemic itself have all contributed to high levels of stress in our region and indeed across the world.

National and international research has highlighted that women appear to have experienced particular stresses of the pandemic.

This engagement was seeking the views of women in our region to hear about the impact of the pandemic on their, and their families', lives.

Update- October 2021

A Research Report and Action Plan were endorsed at the July 2021 Council meeting. Stakeholder and community engagement sessions were held to help refine the Gender COVID-19 Report – Action Plan 2021-2022. The action plan, along with the Gender COVID-19 Impact Analysis Report, has now been added to the document library on this page. Thank you to all of the women who contributed to these documents.

About the report

This research report highlights some key ways in which Council could underpin its post-pandemic recovery plans so as to address the impact that the women of Greater Geelong have experienced over the last year. The women of Greater Geelong have told us again and again to:

Listen to us; hear what we need and act on our experiences and our advice; work with the agencies that know us and support us; give us good advice, information, services and support so we can raise our families, be healthy, and get assistance when we need it; help us to share our heavy loads and our many roles at work, at home and in the community.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in this engagement, your views, feedback and time all greatly appreciated.

We want to hear from women, cisgender and transgender, and gender non-binary people who live, work or study in Greater Geelong, to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted you. The information you provide will help us to plan recovery efforts beyond COVID-19 that are tailored to the needs of women and gender non-binary people in Greater Geelong.

Your insights will help us understand the many impacts experienced including changes to your mental health and well-being, employment, education, finances, connection with the community and experiences of home and family life.

These impacts may have been negative but you may also have experienced positive aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are keen to understand your experience, whether it has been positive, negative or a mixture of both.

To ensure Council can respond with appropriate, sensitive and adaptable measures, it is critical that we hear from women, cisgender and transgender, and gender non-binary people of all ages, backgrounds and life circumstances.
