The City of Greater Geelong, acting in accordance with section 114 of the Local Government Act 2020 (the Act) and the Community Engagement Policy, is seeking community feedback on a proposal to sell part of the land located at 125-135 Weddell Road, North Geelong known as certificate of title volume 97254 folio 139, Lot 2 on PS206464 and outlined yellow on the plan below.

The land was part of the former Geelong Saleyards. The Saleyards operation was closed in 2017.

In 2020, the Geelong Saleyards Precinct Plan was adopted and the land within the precinct rezoned to Comprehensive Development Zone 4 (CDZ4) to provide for the integrated planning, development and subdivision of the land primarily for higher density housing. The Geelong Saleyards Precinct Plan sets a framework to create a high amenity, walkable residential environment through the provision of high-quality public spaces, community facilities and a limited range of commercial uses.

The City-owned land measures approximately 6.05 hectares. It is proposed that around 4.3 to 4.5 hectares be sold, with the remaining land retained for use as a drainage reserve.


Submission details

We invite community feedback on the proposed sale of this land. The City will consider all submissions. If the City resolves to proceed with the sale, the land will be offered for sale through a public process. Please note: we are not accepting purchase or development offers at this stage.

If any person wishes to be heard in support of their submission, they must include their request to be heard in the written submission. This will entitle them to appear either personally or by a person acting on their behalf, before a Submissions Review Panel. The date, time and location will be advised.
