Feedback on the proposed renaming of Carr/Lonsdale Street, Geelong/Thomson has now closed. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
The City invited the community to provide feedback on the proposed renaming of four (4) sections of Carr Street and one (1) section of Lonsdale Street in Geelong and Thomson, due to the change in road alignments by the South Geelong Rail project upgrade. These road renamings were required under the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria.
All road renaming proposals with preferred name options have now been forwarded to Geographic Names Victoria. If you have previously made a submission in relation to these renamings you are offered the opportunity to submit a further appeal to Geographic Names Victoria. Within your submission you are required to outline how the City did not consider your objection or how the City’s proposal does not conform to the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria.
All submissions to Geographic Names Victoria must be made in writing and sent to the Registrar of Geographic Names, Geographic Names Victoria, DELWP, PO Box 500, East Melbourne, Vic 3002 or via email to geo.names@delwp.vic.gov.au.
Once the City has received confirmation of registration or rejection of the proposals the City will be in contact via letter with all interested parties.
The City of Greater Geelong is proposing to rename Lonsdale Street, Geelong and sections of Carr Street, Geelong/Thomson due to the re-alignment of roadways by Rail Projects Victoria due to the South Geelong Rail Project.
All sections of roadways will require individual names to be assigned. The new names chosen for each section can be found in the corresponding tiles below.
This road renaming is being completed in accordance with the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria by linking the name to place.
Submissions for Round 1 closed on 6 May, 2024.
Round 2 engagement
Based on survey responses we received for Carr Street ( between Breakwater & Boundary Roads), we have learned that there are concerns regarding the proposed name of Wills Street.
We also understand that Fyans Street is not a preferred name for the roadway.
The City is now seeking feedback on two new names for the section, Brennan or Sayer Street.
Submissions for Round 2 (24 May to 24 June, 2024).
