The City is proposing to name an unnamed laneway as indicated on map below to Eythorne Lane, Newtown.

This road naming is being completed in accordance with the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria by linking the name to place.

The laneway is situated between Prospect Road and Aphrasia Street, Newtown. The new name has been chosen due to the historical link as the oldest heritage registered house named Eythorne, built in 1872 which is located on Aphrasia Street, Newtown.

The City is responsible for creating or changing the names of places and roads, and for allocating numbers to properties within the municipality.

Appropriate naming is essential for identifying locations when managing emergencies and delivering goods and services.

New names must comply with the State Government’s naming rules for places in Victoria, Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities 2016 (the naming rules), that are established under the Geographic Place Names Act 1998.

The naming of this unnamed laneway is being completed in accordance with the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria and will ensure that Gender Equality in road naming is being met.
