Welcome

21 April project update

The City of Greater Geelong’s planning team thanks community members who responded to the initial Barwon Heads Pump Track plans. Initial community feedback indicated that Council was on track with various aspects of the original design, although insights also indicated that there is still some modification required. We’re so grateful for the level of interest in the project and we can assure you that we have heard your concerns and will now review the design.

The feedback provided suggested that the design needs to be more closely aligned with the intentions of the recently endorsed masterplan for the Barwon Heads Village Park. This includes the use of natural materials for the Pump Track rather than asphalt.

Council is working on the engagement report and this will be available over the coming weeks.

Council’s planning team is committed to engaging the community as it investigates redesign options, while also continuing to explore funding possibilities for the provision of the track.

We're seeking feedback from bike riders, their families and interested residents to inform the design of a bike pump track to be located in the Barwon Heads Village Park, located on the corner of Sheepwash Road and Geelong Road, Barwon Heads. A "designated bike discovery area for a safe and challenging bike experience" was identified in the Council adopted Barwon Heads Village Park Masterplan in 2021.

Pump tracks are fun to ride for all ages and abilities and help develop fitness, skills and co-ordination. Riders propel themselves around the track by 'pumping' the bike in an up and down motion rather than pedalling. The pump track will encourage cycling activities to take place in a safe space away from the built-up areas, enabling exercise and cycling in a safe environment for fun and recreation.

We have created two design layouts for a proposed pump track. Both designs include elements for beginner and intermediate riders including single and double rollers (bumps) berms (banked turns) and linked turns.

Both track designs include the following elements:

  • 1150m2 footprint raised for drainage
  • Asphalt surface
  • Designed for beginner and intermediate riders
  • Includes roller doubles allowing beginner riders to gently roll over and intermediate riders to gap jump
  • Linked turns included to challenge at speed and give a fun flowing roller coaster feel
  • 1.4m to 1.6m tall berms (corner/turns) with max steepness of 45 degrees
  • Grassed / planted batters

Please see the designs below and complete the survey to have your say.
