Formerly the Barwon Heads Sustainability Group, 100% Clean Bellarine (100CB) was formed in mid-2018 after a well-attended Community Renewable Energy Forum which demonstrated the widespread interest in renewable energy.

100CB’s vision is ‘creating the pathway to 100% renewable energy for the Bellarine Peninsula’. It focuses on awareness-raising, facilitating involvement such as in solar energy bulk buying programs and partnering with other organisations on specific initiatives.

In late 2019 the Group hosted a local screening of the sustainability documentary film 2040, filling the Barwon Heads Community Hall. In 2020 they partnered with the Ocean Grove Community Association and the Australian Parents for Climate Action to help roll out a community solar energy and battery bulk-buy program.

The Group’s role in the bulk buys made it easier for the community to install solar and batteries, by providing a trusted local organisation to help people navigate the choices and also help speed up the process. Over 60 houses installed more than 3 megawatts of solar PV through this process.

Also in 2020, the Group developed a Roadmap outlining how it could progress towards the renewable energy future. This roadmap has helped with the Group’s governance and allowed it to map out a plan of action to do more in the future to help local communities and businesses.

The roadmap has also been shared with other community groups as a tool that can provide a clear process for people to follow to make the transition.

Call to Action

We all need to do what is in our capacity to do. Everyone’s action makes a difference and we do have the ability to change things.
