Mitigation options

The project team has developed a range of options to help reduce flood risk across the study area. Fact sheets for each option are available below and outline key considerations such as cost, effectiveness, benefits, and ease of implementation.

These options have been assessed in detail to understand their feasibility, potential risks, estimated costs, and any impacts on surrounding areas downstream. Based on feedback received during the previous round of community engagement, a shortlist of options has been selected for further investigation. This includes consideration of staging, timing, and overall impacts.

In addition to physical infrastructure works, non-structural measures also play an important role in managing flood risk. These include planning controls, emergency management measures, and improved access to flood information. Together, these actions help build community understanding and resilience to flooding, and ensure future development appropriately considers flood risk.

Funding is a key consideration for many structural mitigation options. The City has a limited budget for drainage works, which means larger infrastructure projects are unlikely to proceed without external funding support. Advocacy by both the City and the community will be important to help secure this funding.

While some larger projects may not be able to be delivered immediately, they have been included in the final strategy so they can be progressed in the future when funding opportunities arise.
