OVERVIEW

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on City facilities and services and significantly contributed to a 2020-21 forecast deficit of $33.4 million, with major support packages provided by Council to deliver much-needed and ongoing relief and recovery assistance to individuals and businesses impacted.

A new Council Expenditure Review Panel has been established to make recommendations on any efficiency gains to ensure the Council and City continue to strategically balance fiscal responsibility with supporting the community.

As we plan our upcoming 2021-22 Budget, Council is seeking ideas from the community about where cost savings may be made and ideas about where Budget investment should be directed.

All submission ideas will be provided to Council as part of the development of the 2021-22 Draft Budget and the Expenditure Review Panel process.

Feedback closed on 1 February, 2021 in order to allow the Council to plan for the next Budget and to facilitate reporting back by the Panel to the CEO City of Greater Geelong by 31 March 2021.

Residents will have a further opportunity to contribute to the 2020-21 Budget, when the Proposed Budget is released for public comment in late April.

EXPENDITURE REVIEW PANEL

Following a successful Notice of Motion raised by Councillor Anthony Aitken, that noted “ongoing deficits are not sustainable, Council has established a new Council Expenditure Review Panel.

Led by the Finance portfolio holder, Cr Aitken the panel of councillors will make recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer for expenditure items to be considered when looking to make savings in current and/or future Council budgets in order “to achieve medium to long-term fiscal balance”.

HAVE YOUR SAY

The Panel is inviting community members to submit their cost savings ideas that are non-capital suggestions that could be considered immediately or in upcoming budgets.

Please tell us your thoughts by clicking in the panel below called 'Expenditure Review Panel'.Feedback period has closed.

2021-22 BUDGET FEEDBACK

As part of this survey, Council is also seeking input and feedback from the community on where investment could be directed to support the region’s ongoing recovery from COVID-19, including proposals for any specific ideas for consideration for its 2021-22 Budget.

Feedback and ideas from the community help the Council to ensure its strategic priorities align with the areas identified as being important to the community.

All submissions must outline community benefit from the idea, scope of the idea and where feasible project funding costs.

Please share your ideas by clicking the panel below called '2021-22 Budget Feedback'. Feedback period has closed.
