Timeline - History

  • In 2016 Council developed an initial concept for the Drysdale Town Square which incorporated an expansion of the Drysdale Woolworths store.Community engagement on the design of the square was undertaken in July 2016. A total of 80 submissions were received.After considering submissions, the City made several changes to the design of the square.
  • In 2018/19 works commenced on the town square by removing the overhead powerlines
  • In mid 2019 Woolworths advised that they would not be proceeding with the expansion of their Drysdale store.With Woolworths no longer looking to expand their store, construction on the Town square ceased, the City began investigating how a new Library could be accommodated within the town square.
  • Late 2019 With financial contributions from Jetty Road Growth area, Council in Feburary 2012 committed to delivering a new library to service the Northern Bellarine Peninsula. In 2019, an internal review process identified the town square as the preferred site.
  • 2020 - The town square re-development continued to remain on hold as the design of the new library was developed.
