Many recent conversations have taken place to inform various planning projects across the City of Greater Geelong.

For this project, we have learned from:

  • Trees are a valued asset and play an important role in providing natural shade.
  • Passive supervision is important to ensure all users feel safe and connected - inside and outside of the building.
  • Developing spaces that can be used for many different activities and events - structured and unstructured.
  • Ease of access and navigation is important in a large scale building like this, as well as connecting paths to surrounding facilities and public transport.
  • Use of nature as an extension of the building - bringing the outdoors in and vice versa.

Many different influences have informed the draft design priorities, which include:

  • Reflections on conversations to date (outlined above).
  • Council strategy and policy.

Now we want to ensure that the priorities align with the aspirations of the community.

The final design priorities will influence future decisions on the layout, functionality and materials used for the new Community Hub.

The identified themes will remain priority guidelines when faced with challenges or issues in decision making.

No.

We're seeking your feedback on the draft priorities now, and any new emerging themes important to the community will be considered before finalisation.
