The Kardinia Aquatic Centre is set to open year-round from 1 July 2021, giving swimmers further access to swim laps in the heated 50-metre FINA pool during the winter months.

An allocation of $400,000 in the Budget 2021-22, which was adopted at last night’s Council meeting, has made the opening during the traditional ‘off season’ from May to September possible.

The decision follows two successful winter season extensions in 2020 and 2021, along with community feedback submitted through a survey earlier this year.

Of the 946 responders to the survey, 96.2 per cent were in favour of opening the centre year-round, highlighting the significant community interest in accessing the facility.
