Project Background
The overarching goal of the Draft Mercer, Gheringhap and Bayley Streetscape Masterplan is to elevate the appeal and function of these key areas, making them more inviting, user-friendly, secure, and vibrant.
Your contributions into Stage 1 engagement in late 2021 have contributed to the creation of a draft masterplan that considers factors such as accessibility, pedestrian enhancements, cycling infrastructure, intersection upgrades, greening initiatives, art installations, as well as selection of furniture and materials.
The project aligns with the Revitalising Central Geelong initiative and also considers the Wurriki Nyal precinct and other ongoing and completed projects such as Malop Street Green Spine, Arts and Cultural Precinct, and Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is the first of a series of draft streetscape masterplans proposed in the CentralGeelong Framework Plan.
This first round of engagement sought to capture community aspirations and priorities to inform the Draft Mercer and Gheringhap Masterplan.
Thank you to everyone who provided input, it is valued and appreciated. A summary report of the engagement can be found here, or in the Document Library section of this page.
Key themes from the public engagement included a desire for footpath improvements (72 per cent); more trees and landscaping (64 per cent); better street lighting (61 per cent); extra rubbish bins and recycling bins (51 per cent); more outdoor dining (45 per cent); additional public seating (41 per cent); and more historical information about the city (39 per cent).
We have now prepared a master plan, and request community feedback on what is proposed.
Your feedback in this round is a vital part of our planning, and helps us make decisions to ensure the study area remains a beautiful, inviting place that meets the needs of the local community.
We'd love you to review the Draft Streetscape Masterplan and provide your feedback.
Once this stage of this engagement closes, we will review and take into account all the responses as we finalise the master plan. Your opinions are greatly appreciated and will aid us in making decisions that will make Gheringhap, Mercer, and Bayley streets welcoming and suitable for our community.
