Budget update – April 2024

We are pleased to advise that funding for this project has been included in our Council’s proposed 2024-25 to 2027-28 budget.

The budget, which was released for feedback during the Council’s 23 April meeting, lists funding of $600,000 for improvements to Moorpanyal Park, in line with the master plan.

We encourage you to visit the Proposed 2024-25 to 2027-28 Budget Have Your Say page and provide feedback on the budget. The engagement period closes at 5pm on 22 May.

Welcome

Moorpanyal Park is a district level park located in North Shore. The park (5.7 hectare coastal reserve) is located to the north of Corio Quay which is now the new home of the Spirit of Tasmania Ferry.

As part of Council's commitment to improve its open spaces, we have developed a draft Master Plan for Moorpanyal Park to help guide the long-term development for the site.

The project was identified and the Master Plan funded by Council in the 2021/2022 budget. The Master Plan will identify improvements for the existing reserve to reflect it being a district level park.

The draft Moorpanyal Park Master Plan has been prepared following extensive review of existing conditions and key stakeholder consultation. We are now seeking the broader communities input into the future of Moorpanyal Park. Your feedback will help inform the Final Master Plan.

Funding update

The City of Greater Geelong had designated funding over the next two financial years to commence delivery of projects identified in the Master Plan. On 26th April 2023, the Greater Geelong Council released its Draft 2023-24 Budget, which does not include the funding previously designated.

We know this situation is very disappointing for the community, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback for the Council’s consideration, before a final budget is adopted at the end of June.

The intention is to continue to finalise the Moorpanyal Park Master Plan, to guide future improvements and investment within this reserve, as further funding becomes available in the future.
