Busses are important

It should be obvious that you cannot make Geelong a better place to live, work and shop by making public transport worse. There is a consistent pattern in all other submissions that people who catch the bus are unimportant and that every other consideration trumps their convenience to access the cbd. I hope all these submissions can be thrown in the bin and expert voices advocating for users of PT can be heard loudly.

Bigger picture

The bigger infrastructure picture issues need to be addressed before any real investment will follow. Access to central Geelong is not a pleasant experience if you are a bike rider, car user or pedestrian Parking is an issue that the Council refuses to address. There needs to be multistorey car parks that cater for all day as well as short visits. The Little Ryrie Street, Myer Street and little Malop street opp Officeworks are perfect sites for this development. Eastern Beach and under the…

more inviting

I've seen lots of people 'hanging around' often, even during the day, which could be linked to people waiting around for buses along Moorabool St, this looks uninviting and potentially unsafe. I agree with other comments that we could make the area more coastal looking. We could also connect it to research or events locally, such as at Deakin which has a very nearby campus or buses to the Waurn Ponds campus, to encourage locals to consider study there, hold Deakin accountable for local research…

Not enough inviting local shops

I have no reason to come to this area. The shops are mostly sad corporate chains as I presume they're the only ones who can afford to pay the rent. I would love to spend time at Market Square if there were more artisan stores where goods are high-quality and locally made/designed. Sort of like Brunswick street in Fitzroy (the section near Rose St). This doesn't necessary mean expensive and inaccessible. Also removing car parks outside Market square and Westfield on Malop street so that there is…

The bus stop and mall

Things will never improve while the bus stops are located where they are and the mall is kept. I say move the bus stops to gheringhap st towards the water front. One reason being there aren't shops down that way. The mall needs to be bulldozed and turned into car parking. Security needs to be increased around the bus stops when they are moved ...real security guards not soft spoken skinny ones. Give retailers cheap rent for a year...cheap rent is better than no rent!

Very uninviting spaces

Shops need to address and enhance the streetscape - all around the centre. Pedestrian traffic needs to be encouraged in the mall and elsewhere. Food trucks, grocery shop, cafes, cafe seating would encourage more people. Now that there is more apartment living in the CBD, convenience shops should cater for those living there. Encourage interesting local businesses to take up vacant shops ( subsidise rent?). Public toilets need upgrading - currently tucked away in a strange corner and not…

Buses and Mall

Current mall is out the back of the shops, its dingy closed off and unsafe due to the the unsavory characters that congregate there due to the bus stop location. every business that has opened behind the bus stops has crashed. bus stops could be moved further down the road water side of Westfield car park ramp where there is a big blank wall and no-ones business can be effected. mall needs to be on malop st between Moorabool and yarra so people can just walk straight across from westfield and…

Retail quality lacking

The major problem is a lack of quality retail to attract customers. There should be some sort of supermarket in Market Square again to address this. If the big two supermarkets aren't interested, it could be an Aldi or an independent supermarket - even a greengrocer like Fruit Shack. There isn't much competition aside from the Coles Express in Westfield (which has a limited range), so I'm sure it would help attract more patrons. Also, developing a proper food court with a big/exciting…
