Project Evaluation

The City is seeking feedback from local businesses and the community on the expanded outdoor dining areas that have been installed in Pakington Street, along with the street entertainment program that has been provided.

The trial commenced on Monday 22 March 2021 and is intended to end, with the outdoor dining areas removed, on Tuesday 22 June 2021.

In conjunction with seeking feedback, the City has also commissioned the following reports, which can be viewed in the documents tab:

  • Pakington Street Car Parking Assessment Report - Prepared by GHD
  • Pakington Street Parklet Assessment Report - Prepared by GHD
  • Pakington Street Impact Tracker Report - Prepared by Place Score

These reports, along with the feedback received, will help to inform the City's evaluation of the trial, and help us to plan future initiatives.

Project Background

Following consultation with stakeholders and the community, the City of Greater Geelong decided to install new COVID-safe outdoor dining areas along parts of Pakington Street, Geelong West.

An expanded outdoor dining initiative was approved by the City to be trialled for three months in Pakington Street, between Autumn Street and Preston Street.

The trial has aimed to support local businesses to maximise their economic recovery from COVID-19, with the project aligning with funding support from the Victorian Government to enhance outdoor activities in a COVID-safe manner.

The initial feedback received from businesses and the community helped us to understand different stakeholder views regarding the proposal, and whether the initiative should go ahead.

The initial feedback showed that most of the respondents (65 per cent) were supportive of the initiative. This feedback came from a range of stakeholders, including local businesses, residents and the general public.

The full copy of the initial engagement findings report can also be found in the document library on this page.

The new outdoor dining spaces were installed on Monday 22 March 2021 and are planned to be removed on Tuesday 22 June 2021.
