April 2023 Update

At the 26 April Council meeting, Council hs approved ‘Biyal-a Armstrong Creek Library’ as the traditional name of the new $21.864 million Armstrong Creek Library, reflecting the overall Armstrong Creek valley-scape and its watercourse as a place of many red gums’.

‘Biyal-a’ also expresses that the ‘red gums speak lots of stories’.

August 2022 Update

At the 23 August Council meeting, Council approved the naming of two new community facilities as ‘Poa Banyal Mount Duneed Community Hub’ and Boronggook Drysdale Library, in recognition of our region’s Aboriginal heritage.

Earlier this year, the City of Greater Geelong proposed to name three new facilities within the municipality.

Based on community feedback, the proposed names of the buildings are as follows:

  • Armstrong Creek West Community Centre, 110 - 122 Unity Drive, Mt Duneed - Poa Banyal Mt Duneed Community Hub
  • Drysdale Library, 10 Wyndham St, Drysdale - Boronggook Drysdale Library
  • Armstrong Creek Library, 10 Main St, Armstrong Creek - Biyal-a Armstrong Creek Library

The facility namings are being completed in accordance with the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria, by linking the name to place.

There is an opportunity below to provide feedback about the proposed names.
