There is currently no dog regulation signage in this reserve and given the significant environmental and cultural value of the Barwon River, we propose dogs should be on leash.


Natural values

Floodplain Riparian Woodland vegetation is present along the river and remnant Grassy Woodland persists on elevated areas around Mt Brandon.

The reserve supports a wide variety of woodland and wetland bird species - with over 110 species recorded in recent years.

Contains large old remnant trees with hollows.

The gullies that flow into the reserve are known habitat for the Growling Grass Frog listed as vulnerable under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, 1999.

Atlas of Living Australia records also show a variety native mammals and reptiles inhabit the reserve including Platypus, Swamp Wallabies, Tiger Snakes and Blue Tongue Lizards.


Cultural values

Waterways have significant indigenous cultural value and this site falls within an Area of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Sensitivity with many registered sites
