Engagement Findings Report Released

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposed dog order changes. The engagement findings reports is now available for review.

OVERVIEW

In July and August 2022, we undertook a review of the Dogs in Public Places (DiPP) policy and sought community feedback on current dog control orders and asked for locations where the orders may not be appropriate.

We also spoke with internal stakeholders responsible for open space management and planning, to ensure all aspects of shared public space were considered.

This feedback has helped us identify which dog orders may need to be changed. We are now asking the community to review the proposed dog order changes, before they are presented to Council for final endorsement in mid 2023.

HAVE YOUR SAY

Feedback has now closed.

Changes to dog control orders will affect dog owners and non-dog owners alike so we want to hear from everyone who visits one or more of the fifteen locations listed in the tiles below.

Feedback was open from Thursday 27 April to Friday 26 May, 2023.

Equestrian areas undergoing dog control order review

The City is proposing that equestrian areas be grouped as "tier 1" and "tier 2" equestrian areas, based on the frequency of their use by tenanted horse-riding clubs, groups and camps, as well as recreational horse riders.

Tier 1 reserves are deemed to be heavily used for their original intended purpose, horse riding. This includes Elcho Park and Lake Lorne Equestrian centres.

Tier 2 reserves are deemed to be used less frequently by horse riders, and as such could be used by dogs on or off leash when horses are not present. These proposed reserves include Barwon Heads Community Park, Grinter Reserve, Mount Duneed Recreation Reserve, Portarlington Pony Club Reserve and Rees Reserve.

It is proposed three of the equestrian centres have their current orders stay in place (Barwon Heads Community Park, Elcho Park and Lake Lorne) whilst the other four are proposed to have changes made, pending community feedback.
