What is the Public Realm?

The Public Realm is the space around and between buildings, and the experience of moving through these spaces. This includes streets, laneways and roads, and public plazas.

Strategy Background

The City of Greater Geelong is experiencing strong growth which puts pressure on our streets and outdoor public spaces. The Public Realm Strategy will help improve our streets and public spaces.

The Public Realm Strategy will be a tool to help plan our streets and public spaces and balance outcomes considering transport, economic, social and environmental considerations.

It will guide how we want these places to be, how they get delivered, and how we work together to provide thoughtful spaces that everyone can enjoy.

At this stage, we will seek your initial thoughts on current public spaces and what priorities you might have for future spaces.

In the second stage of engagement we will have developed the draft strategy for your review. We will seek your feedback on whether the vision and design principles are well-defined and capable of creating great public spaces in the future.
