Welcome

The City of Greater Geelong is committed to providing a park and street network that is enjoyable, sustainable, equitable, accessible and safe for all residents and visitors to enjoy.

Over the next 17 years, Greater Geelong's population will grow from 289,000 to over 400,000 people. At the same time there are challenges that will impact the future of our outdoor public spaces, such as housing targets, land use changes, and climate change.

We are preparing two strategies that will guide how we plan and manage City-owned and managed parks, streets and public places: the Public Realm Strategy and the Open Space Strategy.

Community engagement is an essential part of creating these strategies and ensuring they align with our community's values, needs and priorities. Please help us shape these strategies.

The future of Greater Geelong’s Outdoor Public Spaces.

The Public Realm is the public space around and between buildings. This includes streets, laneways, roads and public squares or plazas.

Open space is City-owned or managed public land used for outdoor recreation and enjoyment (i.e. leisure, sport, play, nature appreciation, social connection, and relaxation) that is accessible to the general public with no barrier to entry and free to use.

This includes parks, gardens, reserves, waterways, wetlands and linear trails.

We’re hosting information sessions where you can learn more and share your thoughts on both the Public Realm Strategy and the Open Space Strategy.

While the sessions cover both projects, you can still leave feedback on each strategy individually at the sessions or through their dedicated tiles above. Your input will help shape the future of these important initiatives.

Here’s when and where you can join us—mark your calendar.
