Community Engagement Summary Report

18 December 2024

The community was consulted during August and September 2024 to hear about how Council can make the LGBTQIA+ community feel more included in Greater Geelong. We asked people about their aspirations for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and about priority actions for the City to take over the next four years. In May 2024, Council unanimously resolved to develop an LGBTQIA+ Action Plan. The development of an action plan is in alignment with the community aspiration for Geelong as “an inclusive, diverse, healthy and socially connected community”. It also supports the principles of the Council-endorsed Social Equity Framework, which aims to address barriers faced by disadvantaged groups. By understanding the unique challenges experienced by LGBTQIA+ individuals, we aim to foster a community built on respect, equity, and inclusion for all.
