Project Update - February 2023
Thank you to everyone who has contributed feedback.
Year 1 removals were completed in 2022, which created gaps for planting. These gaps have been planted with an avenue of Eucalyptus viminalis (Manna Gum), and a mix of Acacia implexa (Lightwood), Banksia marginata (Silver banksia) and Melaleuca lanceolata (Moonah).
The year 2 removals will be completed by the end of February 2023 and our planting team will be inspecting the site soon after for new planting opportunities in the nature strips for this years planting season.
Project Update - June 2022
Upcoming tree works for Kees Rd, Lara.
Works as identified in the arborist report to remove 39 Eucalyptus cladocalyx will commence Tuesday 14 June.
Please allow for extra travel time, especially around school drop off/pick up as delays may occur. The removals are expected to take 2 weeks to complete.
Introduction
The City of Greater Geelong is inviting residents to have their say about the tree management program on a section of Kees Road in Lara.
About 350 mature Eucalyptus cladocalyx, commonly known as sugar gums, line the divided Kees Road between Henderson Drive and Patullos Road. The trees are more than 20 metres tall and planted in clusters.
The City recognises the trees are a feature of Lara and make a significant contribution to the urban forest of the region. This project is about making the local area safe and being proactive to retain the attractiveness of the street.
Due to the safety of some trees, the City needs to undertake tree removals and tree maintenance on the avenue. A renewal plan, which includes replanting, also needs to be developed, to support the aim of the Urban Forest Strategy to maintain a safe landscape with canopy trees.
We are seeking your input and feedback on how you’d like the avenue to look, considering the types of trees and plantings you’d like used. Details about each of the tree species can be found below.
Please complete our tree canopy, understory and nature strip tree selection questionnaire via the button below.
