Project Updates - 2021

Update 28 October, 2021

The final Master Plan for Barwon Heads Village Park was approved by Council on Tuesday 26th securing the character of the park into the future whilst also supporting much needed upgrades to key facilities and new opportunities for children and youth through the bike discovery area. The success of the plan is largely due to the high level of community input sharing their aspirations for the park to ensure it meets their needs and is a place they will continue to love.

The final master plan and consultation report can be found in the document library of this page.

The City now looks forward to working with the community and stakeholders on implementing the plan.

Overview

The Project

Barwon Heads Village Park is a 23 hectare park in the coastal village of Barwon Heads.

The draft Barwon Heads Village Park Master Plan establishes a vision, a series of goals and recommendations to guide the future development and management of the park.

The focus of the draft master plan is to protect the park's values and character, whilst also responding to increases in community use and participation in organised sport. The draft plan also aims to improve accessibility and minimise increases to the footprint of buildings.

The draft master plan, which will guide the future funding of the village park over the next decade, proposes some key initiatives including:

  • A new bowls pavilion and new home for the Barwon Heads Scouts Group;
  • Redevelopment of the tennis pavilion and shared cricket, soccer and football pavilion;
  • Greater protection of the Moonah woodlands and additional plantings;
  • Opportunities to improve awareness and understanding of Wadawurrung cultural values;
  • A new bike discovery area for children;
  • A combination of dog on and off lead areas and areas where dogs are prohibited.
