Welcome

Background

Respected, Connected and Thriving - Positive Ageing Strategy 2021-47 is a holistic, long term strategy which aims to promote and support healthy and happy ageing for people over 55 in the City of Greater Geelong.

The strategy has three themes:

  • People, as they age, live in safe, welcoming and strongly connected local communities
  • People, as they age, are respected, supported and encouraged to participate as active citizens in building strong local communities
  • As they age, people have access to places, spaces and services.

Throughout 2022, the City undertook a co-design process with the Ageing Well Advisory Committee, other community members over 55 years of age, local organisations and Council staff to help build a three-year action plan and measurement framework. The outcomes of the co-design process informed the development of the action plan.

The Positive Ageing Strategy 2022-25 Action Plan will progress the themes and priorities of the Positive Ageing Strategy 2021-47. It outlines the actions we will take over the next three years to help make our community a more age friendly place to live.

Co-design invites the community to be active participants in the design process, ensuring the Positive Ageing Strategy Action Plan is truly meaningful to the residents of Greater Geelong.

Phase One: Community Conversations

Phase One of the co-design process involved community conversations and an online survey.

Community Conversations

From Tuesday 15 February 2022 to Tuesday 15 March 2022, community members had conversations with people they were close to who were over 55 years of age.

There were two key ways to provide your feedback and the feedback of your friends, family and networks:

  • a one on one conversation
  • host a group conversation

The Conversation Toolkit (a word version can be found in the Document Library) provided a guide to help get the most out of the conversation.

  • discussion questions
  • tips for having great conversations, and
  • suggested ways to record your discussion.

For those who found the online process challenging, we encouraged relatives, friends, or carers to complete this on their behalf, ensuring the answers reflected the voice of the person if responding on their behalf.

The flyer (contained in the Document Library) provided information about the project for community members taking part in conversations.

Discussions and ideas recorded and submitted were used to inform the design phase to explore potential solutions to identified needs.

Online survey

Community members over 55 could also provide their own feedback through the survey tool below.

Phase Two: Design

A design team, which included interested community members from phase one, took the ideas raised by the community in phase one and translated them into meaningful actions. There were lots of ideas, so priority actions for the next three years were voted on by the design team and included in the action plan.

Feedback for this engagement closed on Tuesday 15 March 2022.
